JBM lists a large range of internal doors in standard Australian sizes, as a door leaf or prehung in a frame. The product page asks for four things: the size, the prehung type, the hand and the face hole. This guide explains each.
Sizes
Door sizes are height x width x thickness in millimetres. The standard internal height is 2040 mm, with widths from 520 mm up to 920 mm in 100 mm steps (620, 720, 820 and 920 are the common ones) and a thickness of 35 mm. Taller 2340 mm doors suit higher ceilings. Measure the existing door or the structural opening before ordering; a new door in an existing frame should match the old leaf, and a prehung door needs the opening to be larger than the frame.
Hollow and solid core
A hollow core door has a light honeycomb interior behind the faces: lighter, lower cost and the usual choice for bedrooms and cupboards. A solid core door (such as the Solicore range) is heavier, quieter and more robust, and is the one to choose where sound or a firmer feel matters.
Prehung type
Plain is the door leaf only, for hanging in an existing frame. Prehung supplies the door already hinged in a new frame, ready to fit into the opening, which saves time on new work and renovations where the old frame is coming out. JBM to confirm: the frame profiles and hinge options supplied with prehung doors.
Hand
The hand says which side the hinges go on. Stand on the side the door swings away from you (you push it open): hinges on the left is a left hand door, hinges on the right is a right hand door. Choose Either when you will hang the leaf yourself and decide on site.
Face hole
The face hole is the hole cut through the door for the handle or lock. Choose None for an uncut door, or the preparation that matches the hardware you have chosen. A door ordered with a cut is a special order and cannot be returned once cut; the product page says so before you add it to the basket.
Finish
Most doors are supplied primed or raw, ready for painting or staining on site. Seal all six faces, including the top and bottom edges, so the door does not take up moisture and move.
